What is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)?
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a specialized form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and is considered the gold standard treatment for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). It is also one of the most effective treatments for anxiety disorders, panic, phobias, and some eating disorders.
Treatment begins with getting to know you—your goals, the challenges you're facing, and the ways anxiety or obsessive thoughts may be keeping you stuck. Together, we'll identify the patterns that are maintaining the cycle and build skills to help you respond to difficult thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations with greater confidence and flexibility.
From there, we'll create a personalized exposure plan that allows you to gradually face your fears at a pace that feels manageable and supported. Rather than avoiding discomfort or relying on compulsions for relief, you'll learn how to tolerate uncertainty, trust yourself, and respond in ways that align with your values instead of your anxiety. Over time, this process helps reduce fear, build resilience, and create lasting change.
If you often feel controlled by intrusive thoughts, anxiety, fear, uncertainty, disgust, or the urge to avoid situations or seek reassurance, ERP may be an excellent treatment option. You don't have to let anxiety dictate your life—healing is possible, and I'll be there to guide and support you every step of the way.
My approach to ERP is informed by extensive experience treating individuals with OCD across a wide range of symptom severity, including high-acuity and complex presentations. Through my work at a well-known Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) specializing in OCD and anxiety disorders, I've helped clients navigate some of the most challenging forms of OCD using evidence-based, compassionate care. Whether your symptoms are mild or significantly impacting your daily life, treatment is tailored to meet you where you are.
